June 21, 2016in 2016 0 Likes

The international conference on Cultural Identities in the Danube Region  took place December 4 – 7, 2014 in Timisoara, Romania. The event was organized by the Romanian Department for Interethnic Relations and the Romanian Ministry for Regional Development and Public Administration  under the Priority Area 3 – Culture, Tourism and People to People Contacts of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).

The discussions followed key issues related to PA3 targets:

Session 1 – Cultural identities under the framework of achieving the Priority Area (PA3) targets

Example of best practices were presented. The project of a Lower Danube Region brand Eastern Danube Region – A Gateway. An Odyssey, designed and promoted by Romania and Bulgaria, was also mentioned.
Session 2 – Elaborating a Blue Book on Danube Cultural Identities

Outcomes of the study visit in Northern Dobrogea, organized in June 2014 by the Department of Interethnic Relations, were presented: audio-visual productions showing different aspects of the reach and valuable human heritage, a brochure in German language focused on Northern Dobrogea, two short documentaries and a promotion spot.
Session 3 – Documenting with images and making proposals for elaborating the Blue Book of Danube Cultural Identities

General approach of the participants was that the Blue Book of Danube Cultural Identities is an extensive project on long term that will have as result a portal with various sections, including online or printed products presenting the Danube region from the prospective of the ethnic communities living along the riverbank.
Session 4 – Establishing a Danube Platform for Intercultural Dialogue and a cooperation framework for 2015

The establishment of a Danube Platform for Intercultural Dialogue was proposed as working and collaboration tool on several levels:

  • Governmental institutions specialized on national minorities/interethnic relations from the 14 states of the EUSDR region.
  • NGOs and local communities preoccupied in this domain.
  • Media representatives
  • Experts from cultural institutions and academics
  • Specialists and entrepreneurs in cultural tourism and creative industries.

The competent institutions of the EUSDR country are invited to become partners in elaborating the Blue Book/ Blue Portal of Danube Cultural Identity.
